Elders and deacons are the only men in the Lord’s church who hold office (Acts 14:23Titus 1:5, 1 Peter 5:2). The Church of Christ in Ashlea Gardens has appointed qualified men to these offices.

Elders

Overseers who keep watch over the flock as their spiritual shepherds and lead the church according to God’s will (Acts 20:28Hebrews 13:17). They are to be on alert for and stop those who attempt to undermine the church in any way.

According to the qualification listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-13,

AN ELDER MUST BE:

The husband of one wife, the father of faithful children, a good manager of his family, blameless, vigilant, sober, well-behaved, hospitable and able to teach.

HE MUST NOT BE:

A drunkard, violent, quarrelsome, greedy or a newly converted Christian.

Deacons

Deacons are servants in the church. The word "deacon’"means one who serves. Although all members of the Lord’s body are to serve diligently in His kingdom, deacons are given special tasks to perform that assist in the smooth functioning of the congregation. Their work may include building  maintenance, public worship schedules, benevolence ministries, and more. By performing their task well, deacons enable the eldership to focus on the spiritual matters of the congregation (Acts 6:2-3)

According to 1 Timothy 3:8-13,

A DEACON MUST BE:

Worthy of respect, sincere, not fond of much wine, honest, a true follower of the faith, faithful to his wife and a good manager of his household.
